Zumba: Zumba was founded in 1998 by Pérez in Cali Colombia. Pérez, an aerobics instructor, forgot to bring his regular music to his aerobics class. He happened to have cassette tapes of Latin dance music—salsa and merengue—and danced to them instead, which Pérez later taught as “Rumbacize”.
My name is Cathy Rumba and I’ve been married to an awesome man since 1979, who gave me my last name that fits me wonderfully! A stay at home mom of three children born between 1983-1986, I started bringing my children to the local YMCA where I became a fitness instructor in 1992-2006, in Michigan City Indiana. There, I started my career in Group Exercise and Aquatic Exercise. I was then hired at a hospital based facility where I worked from 2008-2014 where I became Zumba licensed and started teaching many classes in the studio and in the pool. As Zumba started picking up it was introduced to Curves, an only womens studio, where I worked 2011-2014 and was hired to teach classes at another fitness club 2011-2014. In 2014 we moved to Florida! I was hired within a few months and started working, teaching classes and personal training at JP Gills YMCA in Trinity in 2015 and I am still employed there today. Most importantly, I became a born again believer of Jesus Christ in 1985, learning, growing and attending classes about His kingdom and His will for my life, I was baptized by immersion in 1993! I am a child of God!
